From a business standpoint, should I do small bulk vending machines or larger machines like snack and beverage machines?

If you are trying to start up a vending route then small vending machines is the way to go.  If you own a business or store, then Pop & Snack machines are probably the better choice for you because you'll want to have a large selection and maximize your possible earnings.

Bulk vendors want to service a location fast and get on to the next one, and bulk machines do just that because it just takes seconds to POUR in the product.  With snack and soda machines you have to lug all the product around first and then neatly place it in 1 ITEM AT A TIME.

Bulk machines cost considerably less, so let's say you can buy approx. 10-20 regular small bulk machines or maybe 100's of other machines for the same price of just one large pop or snack machine.  This is good for the starter because you will have more locations generating money, and your cost to get into each location is less, so you should be able to pay off each location machine sooner, and thus a more secure income.  So loosing 1 of your many bulk locations is no big deal, but it is a big deal whenever you loose a large location for a pop machine.

Bulk locations are easier to come by, commissions are generally much less, less maintenance required, smaller vehicle to run your business, less weight of machines and product, so much less headaches and more time relaxing in your vehicle as you go to the next location.

We have talked to people around the USA that are retiring or switching from large pop and snack machines to small bulk machines, but no one doing small bulk machines has ever told us that they are switching to pop and snack.
Should I do big fancy bulk machines or small simple bulk machines?
Our experience is to only do the small bulk vending machines unless you own or have a great location that really wants one of the big ones.

Smaller machines will make about as much as the bigger ones.  They cost much less so you can afford to have more.  They are easier to maintain.  Buying less expensive machines will allow you to have more locations and therefore a more secure income.

What are some tips you could share?

  • Location is everything!  In your city and in the store.
  • Place the machine between the check out and the exit because they might have more change after checking out.
  • High traffic areas, check for places near the restrooms, phones, ATMs, pop machines where you could set a machine.
  • The more locations you have the more secure your income is.
  • Some stores never even mention a commission.
  • Floor space is very important to store owners, so bigger isn't always better.
  • Remember you are providing them a nostalgic free service that their customers appreciate.
  • Small and counter top machines in a mall are excellent locations.
  • Fancier isn't always more profitable.
  • Smaller machines usually pay for themselves sooner because they cost less, easier to service and locate, so better to have lots of small vending machines than one big expensive one.
  • It's easier to find locations for simple vending machines like the 27 inch spirals. Use the other machines for your really good locations when needed.
